Grupo Visabeira has sponsored the mission of the Portuguese doctors in Mozambique once again

In the healthcare promotion area, Grupo Visabeira has continued to provide its annual support to Health4Moz, a Portuguese medical association that has carried out another humanitarian mission in Mozambique. Accommodation at the Girassol Nampula and Girassol Indy hotels was sponsored by the Group.

The journey of professional teams to that country, which occurs several times a year, aims at improving the quality of health in several fields. This time it focused on improving monitoring during pregnancy, care during delivery and new-born care.

This 2015 mission was carried out in Nampula, a town around 2400 kilometres from Maputo, where there is a scarcity of paediatric care.

The humanitarian mission involved 8 people, including two obstetricians and three paediatricians working on a voluntary basis to provide different types of training: pregnancy monitoring and childbirth care - pre-graduate training provided to 20 medical students of the Lúrio de Nampula University, in Mozambique, and post-graduate training provided to 20 nurses/midwives and 20 general practitioners and obstetricians.

The mission also included post-graduate training in neonatology provided to 20 general practitioners from Nampula and 20 paediatricians from around the country, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

Two simulators, purchased in the USA for 14 thousand dollars, with their own software, were used to recreate the birthing situation. The equipment has meanwhile been offered to Lúrio University.

During this stay, the national delegation in Mozambique met with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education as well as with the Ministry of Higher Education, among others.

Health4Moz receives support from several Portuguese hospitals, such as the hospitals, S. João and Santo António, in Oporto.
